When is the French and Indian Mother’s Day?
A mother is the architect of the society and a day is solely dedicated to her power, courage, and love which is known as Mother’s Day. The month of May witnesses Mother’s Day celebration in most parts of the world but again different countries have different dates to celebrate this occasion which is briefly discussed below:
French Mother’s Day
In France, this Mother’s Day is generally observed on the last Sunday of the month of May. History says that due to low birth rate in the first half of the 20th century, the French Government started awarding the Médaille de la Famille francaise to the mothers of large families. Since 1950’s the mother’s day began to be celebrated on the last Sunday of the month of May except when Pentecost fell on that day. In that case, the celebration would be shifted to the first Sunday of June which happened in 2012. This year the French people would celebrate Mother’s Day on 26th May 2019.
Along with France, the same date is followed by Algeria, Cameroon, Dominican Republic, French Antilles, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Haiti, Mauritius, Senegal, Sweden, and Tunisia.
Indian Mother’s Day
Most of the countries follow the USA way of Mother’s Day celebration. India also celebrates Mother’s Day on the 2nd Sunday of May and this year it is falling on 10th May 2019. But unlike the USA, mother’s day is not a holiday in India. In general, mother’s day is not a big event like other festivals in India but yes it is slowly capturing popularity among masses and that is evident with the sale of mother’s day gifts!
